Francis seen filming!

July 15, 2009

Francis Dunnery just left Tetra’s home office after playing his butt off for 2 consecutive nights. You can learn more about Francis on our “Who’s Listening” page and be sure to look into hosting your own house concert with him as it is truly a life changing experience (Trust me on this one).

Francis has also played for President Obama and his song “I Believe I Can Change My World“ became a party anthem for Obama’s campaign. Not too shabby for a Celtic football fan...Way to go Frankie!!! Did I say yet that I love Francis and that I think he is a true ‘spirit head’? Oh...and while Francis was at Tetra he was seen filming with his cell phone and the oft-funny results are here.

Sonny Greenwich

July 10, 2009

Guitar great and Order of Canada recipient Sonny Greenwich just paid a visit to Tetra’s home office in Canada’s capitol. While here he purchased a pair of our ‘listening instruments’ and is now a Tetra endorser. Watch our “Who’s Listening” page for more from Sonny.

Getting to know you...

July 2, 2009

Tetra was recently treated with a visit by 4-time Grammy winning Producer/Engineer Rob Griffin. Rob was in town working with Wayne Shorter on his headlining gig at the Ottawa International Jazz Festival and Rob found a little bit of time to visit us. We had a great listening session at Tetra where we got to hear, an as yet unavailable, recording of what Rob called (and we concur) the next Grammy-winning Jazz album. It was Wayne Shorter playing in front of the Concertgebouw Orchestra!!! All we could say was “we're not worthy!”

After that it was off to the concert where we got a lot jazzed and a little wet. After a great show with Rob’s requisite pristine sound he invited us up on stage where Rob jokingly handed me his stethoscope and asked me to check Wayne’s horns for resonances. I was happy to oblige. The prognosis was good and I am happy to report that there were tons of resonances!! Rob continued our tour backstage where we met the headliner himself. What an immense treat to meet such an iconic master. That Rob cracked us a cold beverage and allowed us to visit with Mr. Shorter while we drank it was very much over the top on the ‘kindness’ meter. As I already said “we're just not worthy” but Thank You Rob all the same for letting us ‘Getting to know you’ and meet Mr. Shorter. We hope to see you again really soon BBQ-side.

A Little Night Reading

April 1, 2009

In the past month Tetra has been gifted with two very wonderful but also very different books about music.

The first book is a new Ron Carter biography penned by jazz aficionado Dan Ouellette. The book provides a luscious past, present and future history of Dr. Carter’s prolific life and music.

Finding the Right Notes

Ron gives a surprise nod in the book to Tetra too whereby he references his ‘prized’ Tetra ‘Fraboni’ 606s and ‘Carter’ 500 subwoofer. Of course we are humbled by this ‘tip of the bass’ from Ron. We also love the books title, “Finding the Right Notes”. Hmmmmm, maybe we’ll even borrow it for our next Tetra ad campaign...Stay Tuned!

Learn more here: “Finding the Right Notes

The second book is a real bolt from the Black and Blue for Tetra president Adrian Butts.

Live in the Shadow

In his younger years Adrian was the lead singer in a Rolling Stones cover band called Out of our Heads. With a stage name of Bubba Jagger, Adrian was one of four singers from a total of 15 band members that cycled through the band over its’ 5,678 day history. Miraculously, David Hart, an Olympic coach and only constant (some also say cognizant) member in the bands history has documented (sometimes painfully) the ‘goings-on’ of life in a Stones cover band in his tell-most near all documentary “Live in the Shadows”. If you are a true fanatic for Rolling Stones music or just looking for a gas-gas-gas, get “Live in the Shadows” NOW if you want it!

Let there be 'Guitars'

November 12, 2008

Legendary Music Producer and Tetra "Who's Listening" John Snyder has just mixed and mastered McCoy Tyner's new cd 'Guitars' on our 'optimally art-gineered' 506s.

Read Stereophile's new 'Recording of the Month' review of 'Guitars' which gives the cd a 4.5 out of 5 star rating for both performance AND sonics. Stereophile Writer Dan Ouellette says..."The sound quality is top-tier and the mix meticulous". WOW....The Thrill is back!

Ron Carter inducted into ASCAP Jazz Wall of Fame

July 24, 2008

Tetra salutes Dr. Ron Carter for his induction into the ASCAP Jazz Wall of Fame. This is especially wonderful as the good Doctor puts a lot of careful attention getting his sound off the walls.

Ron Carter playing at the induction ceremony held July 17th, 2008 at The Allen Room, Frederick P. Rose Hall, Home of Jazz at Lincoln Center in Manhattan.

Moving Pictures

Jimi-Come Lately!

February 5, 2008

Tetra Speakers had the immense pleasure of hosting a showcase performance with singer/guitarist/drummer etc. Jordan John. Jordan was paired up on stage with his Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Dad Prakash John on bass. Al Cross provided a meticulous beat and rhythm on the drums. The event was held at Ottawa's Bass Line Station where the slogan is..."We don't want no treble" (heh, heh). The concert was attended by newspaper columnist Lynn Saxberg who subsequently positioned Jordan's photo on the front page of the Ottawa Citizen newspaper with the caption "Jimi-Come Lately...21 year old guitarist likened to legendary axeman Hendrix". Of course we concur. Read more about this magic moment here... and see the performance here...

Start spreading the news...

July 17, 2007

A happy group of seven Tetra Files made a five day trip into the heart of NYC to spend an incredible three days helping Dr. New York, celebrated bassist Ron Carter, whoop it up at 70, with a few of his closest friends. The events kicked off with a visit to the Canadian Consulate in New York where Ron was honored for his 50 year contribution to music by Consul General Daniel Sullivan.

Ron Carter, Daniel Sullivan (Consul General of Canada in New York) and Adrian Butts (Tetra Speakers) ... on guard for Thee. Left to right: Dr. Ron Carter, Daniel Sullivan (Consul General of Canada in New York) and Adrian Butts (Tetra Speakers) ... on guard for Thee.

Then it was off to Carnegie Hall where we watched & listened to Ron work his bass off with 4 different bands that included a quartet with Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter & Billy Cobham, a trio with Mulgrew Miller & Russell Malone, a duet with Jim Hall all nicely capped off with Ron's new quartet featuring Stephen Scott, Payton Crossley & Rolando Morales. It was an absolute monster night of music followed by a back stage visit that kept us smiling all the way back to the Hotel Beacon.

Fenn and Herbie

Adrian turns the camera on Tetra's photographer Stephen Fenn and Herbie Hancock.

The following morning at 9 it was back to Ron's home where writer Mike Quinn of Jazz Times held a listening session with Ron and his new 606s. Read all about it here: Listening with Ron

SONIC FLARE

November 13, 2006

Tetra's new website gets a rave from Sonic Flare!  Tetra Takes Off. 606 and 306

RELEASE OF TETRA 606 (a.k.a. Thee Fraboni)

September 17, 2006

If good things are worth waiting for, then our 606 was certainly a long train coming. Although the 606 took a full year of 'push and shove' designing, it clearly breaks through the sound barrier. Co-developed with iconic Producer/Engineer Rob Fraboni the 606 is Tetra’s statement 3-way design. The Tetra team is unequivocal in saying that the fruit of this joint design with Fraboni is a Listening Instrument that reconstitutes the recorded moment in its complete splendor. For Tetra, designing with Fraboni was like tapping into the knowledge of most every musical great. As we at Tetra like to say "Rob Fraboni has absolutely been there, done that!" In fact, we have even respectfully dubbed our 606, what else but 'Thee Fraboni', in his musical honor. Early adopters of the 606 (a.k.a.: Thee Fraboni) include Herbie Hancock and Ron Carter.

Now get on up and dance to the music!

TETRA HAS JUST WON THE EAR OF OTTAWA'S OWN ADRIAN CHO

September 2, 2006

Tetra has just won the ear of Ottawa's own Adrian Cho of the Impressions in Jazz Orchestra. Tetra's new V.P. of Business Development, Bill O'Hara, credited Mr. Cho and his Orchestra with 'blowing the lid off’ of Ottawa's International Jazz Festival this year. GOIN' TO CALIFORNIA WITH AN A-STRING IN MY HEART

September 2004

Tetra just returned from what proved to be a once-in-a-lifetime California Dreamin' Music Road Trip. Our mission: Celebrate a lucky seven years in business for our Top Tetra Dealer Audio High, and the opening of a new location in Mountain View, California. And open it we did. In fact, we nearly blew the roof off! On Saturday night Maestro Jim Merod of Blueport Jazz was at the controls for a live 2-channel recording of jazz greats John Hicks, Bob Magnusson and Roy MCurdy; a lot of high-power talent in the same room!

The Hicks Trio was truly inspired being together after many years apart. Legendary jazz photographer Lee Tanner was on hand to document the event. "I haven't enjoyed myself this much since I last saw Zoot Simms play!" Lee enthused. Early word from Merod's Mastering Lair is there may be enough first-rate material for a 2-CD set. Scheduled for a late-2004 release, stay-tuned here at Tetra where bleeding edge info will always be available.

As if the concert wasn't enough--and it would have been-- we packed our bags the next day and drove for eight hours to a Labor Day get-together with none other than Mr. Herbie Hancock! He greeted us at the gate to his Hollywood home/studio, and like most audiophiles, he was quick to offer a mini-review of the Tetra 405s he'd been vetting for a week. "Adrian, I'm hearing things that I knew were there but hadn’t heard since originally recorded!" That was a great ice-breaker! Give you an idea… we showed up around one in the afternoon and stayed 'til… 'round midnight.

Herbie now has a pair of Tetra Live 505LTDs in his studio, and a high-impact and gorgeous sounding new Tetra surround system. Life should always be this good: Audio High has a happy, involved new customer to add to growing roster of happy Tetra customers. And our heartfelt thanks to Dave Holland for putting Herbie onto Tetra.
